Description
This page documents the repair of a common failure in the Lidl / Silvercrest power switch.
The issue occurred twice, so the repair is worth it.
Problem
- Device stopped working (switching issues)
- Root cause: damaged capacitor (470µF / 10V)

Repaired Area
Root Cause
- Electrolytic capacitor degraded / failed
- Original: 470µF, 10V
- Visible damage (bulging / leaking)
Fix
- Replaced capacitor:
- 470µF
- upgraded from 10V → 16V (recommended)
After replacement, everything works perfectly again.
Tools Required
- Soldering iron
- Desoldering pump (spring suction tool ???)
- Replacement capacitor (470µF ≥16V, recommended)
- Screwdriver set (iFixit kit recommended)
Disassembly
- Device is secured with 6x Y1 screws
- Screws are hidden behind rubber feet
- Remove rubber caps carefully using tweezers
- PCB is fixed with:
- ~3x Phillips screws
Repair Steps
- Open device
- Locate defective capacitor
- Desolder old capacitor
- Insert new capacitor (check polarity!)
- Solder properly
- Reassemble device
Result
- Device fully working again
Notes
- Always disconnect from mains before opening!
- Capacitors may still hold charge - use ESD wrist strap
- Use higher voltage rating for better durability

This is a easily fixable issue.
